Keepers saving penalties
(Preview)
The Millwall v Peterborough game tonight saw Millwall take a penalty three times, after the keeper saved it twice. He moved just a short distance forward off his line and was penalised for it. Personally, I would support the referee in his decision but I wish they were more consistent. I do think that k...

Junior county cup finals
(Preview)
The evening of Tuesday 28th April will see two cup finals being played in Carlisle- the under 18s boys and girls under 12s. You would think there was enough dates in the calendar to keep them on different days. It would be conceivable that you could have a parent with an interest in both games, and they ca...

Football in the dark
(Preview)
Harraby's game against Wark last night finished just before 8.25 pm, and it was pitch-black. Wark barely arrived before 6.30 and the game was twenty minutes late in starting. City play Wark a week on Wednesday so it might be an idea to either invest in 22 miners' helmets, or a set of luminous strips.

Kicking the ball out of play
(Preview)
I see that Scottish side East Stirling have instructed their players to not kick the ball out of play, if an opposition player is down injured. Apparently, they conceded a goal recently when the opposing side continued playing, around an injured East Stirling man What do people think of this?

Girls under 10s- City v Yewdale
(Preview)
This game was probably the most exciting of the many on the Sheepmount on Sunday afternoon. City went three up, with Yewdale then getting three goals back, only for City to score a late winner. Much credit goes to both sides for a lot of effort and skill. The Yewdale side only had six players, and no subs,...

Well done to all the players and coaches for a fine game this morning. It has been a difficult season for this side and they have done well to keep on battling, and they have two wins on the bounce now. The match photos will be on-line soon.

I see that Sven Eriksson has been sacked today by Mexico. That should be another nice little earner for him. Apparently, he is out after being humbled by the mighty Honduras in their last game.

Alan Shearer
(Preview)
I had been trying desperately to think of an April Fools story, but Newcastle United have created one for me. As far as I can tell, it is genuine news that he is taking over as manager. It seems an incredible leap of faith by the Newcastle board, which also smacks to me of sheer desperation.

Northern Alliance relegation
(Preview)
The relegation battle at the foot of the Alliance premier division is going to be a close-run affair. Currently, there's just one point between the bottom club (Ashington) and Heddon, who are in 11th place. Above Heddon, there are two sides who are only three points better off. City have five of the bo...

A big well done should be given to the girls who gained their first point since the revamp of the league. The girls travelled to frenchfields to play Castletown with only six players and earned a very creditable three all draw. Castletown agreed to play the game as a six-a-side, and it was them with a str...

World Cup qualifiers
(Preview)
I saw a bit of Eurosport earlier tonight, and it showed highlights from the Lithuania v France game. The pitch looked like something at the Sheepmount in mid-December, it was atrocious. It's surprising that FIFA let games go ahead on pitches like that.

Best player in the world
(Preview)
So it's Steven Gerrard, says Michel Platini. I suppose we see the most of Gerrard, and maybe we do underestimate him. I've always been frustrated by his performances for England, when I think he rarely looks world-class. I know he's been played out of position, and England's midfield always seems to...

With that new film about him being released, he's in the news a lot at the moment. The Charity Shield between Leeds and Liverpool 1974 was on ESPN last night.
