carlisle City U16 Folding (Boys)

Still find it hard to understand how our team has had to fold . Got news from Warren yesterday morning , totally out of the blue.

Understand we were having difficulty bringing in players but we still had 12 and feel there are players at other clubs with big squads , with boys not getting much game time, who would have come given the opportunity.

If Warren wanted to stand down , which I now believe he did, could we have not got another manager to take the team on and enable the team to fulfil their potential.

Now we have another team gone, which means other squads get bigger , assuming the lads want to carry on playing , also meaning less teams to play and less competition .  Such a shame and should never had happened disbelief

It is a worry to us that we struggle to keep sides going at older age-groups- it has been a feature of our last three or four seasons. It is something that we are addressing- as far as I can tell, this side folded purely due to lack of numbers

Mike

I know that Warren has made every attempt to attract the players to the squad to keep the side going but contrary to your comments there does not appear to be the players available.

To say it has come totally out of the blue is a little strange also as I am sure there has been many occasions over the last season when Warren has been unable to field a full 11?

It was certainly not a case of Warren wanting to stand down, I know he is devastated at having to fold the team but he has done so at an early stage to allow the lads a good time to secure another team for next season which I believe is the right thing to do.

Did you make Warren aware of all these players who you say " would have come given the opportunity"?

We struggled with injuries Martin at end of season Martin , that was true , but my point is that there are squads with many players signed on who's players are not getting game time, who I believe would be better coming to Carlisle City. I know Warren was trying to bring players in because I speak to him regularly and I was trying to help myself .

Our players will now go other teams to increase squads even more , when 2 or 3 players would have saved us .

It's so frustrating and was ' out of the blue ' , for me because I believed Warren would be able to find a few lads and even thought that a couple of boys who had stopped playing for us , might have second thoughts .

I was optimistic so it was a shock when I heard the news .

This thread is stimulating some debate and all is not lost as approaches have come in already.   We have asked the youth league for a couple of weeks' grace to re-assess the situation.

Brian, sounds interesting but obviously I don't know what's happening ; is there a chance the team may be able to stay together ?

Hi Mike-  yes there is a chance. It seems there are a number of unattached players in the area who may help to boost numbers.   It will help if existing players could bear with us for a few more days- there are no player forms out yet anyway

Brian, I have started the ball rolling to get in touch with parents but although pleased that the team may be able to continue , they don't want their boys to be without teams next season and as you are well aware , some of our boys have been approached by other managers .

As discussed earlier , the situation needs to be resolved quickly and parents informed of developments - look forward to the next chapter , hopefully by next week when Warren returns cry

Mike I can assure you Warren did everything he could to keep the team going, I was there when he told the boys he was looking for fresh blood to bring in for next season. Unfortunately he was unable to get the required players in to take the team forward, so he has done what he thought best in order for boys to get a team for next season. He is gutted with how it panned out, it would be great to keep the team together after all his great work over the years.

Unfortunately He could not get the required players in so has done the right thing in trying to give boys time to find new teams.  I certainly hope the team can be kept together after the years of sacrifice he has made.

Just to confirm that the decision has now finally been made that City will not have an under 16s boys team this coming season- thank you to all who have coached and played in the side over the years

Just a slight correction- as City will field a younger side in the under 16s league, coached by Mark Boundy
