The City golf day took place on Friday the 24th of August at Brampton golf club.Fortunately the weather was dry and the course was in superb condition.
Although numbers were down on previous years due to last minute cancellations, all who took part were treated to a great day.The competition is in a singles format with points scored on a stableford basis using full handicaps.
For the regulars to the competition, the influence of the "envelopes" normally have bearing on who will take away the magnificent trophy and first prize on offer.
For those of you who have not played the envelopes contain a message informing the holder that he has gained points or lost them,so as has happened in previous years the winner does not always end up the winner.
However on this occasion the winner was so far ahead of the field that no envelope contained enough points to harm him.
It did have a bearing on the minor places and certain good rounds had their legs taken away by the envelopes.
the final positions were as follows,
Winner Craig Wilson 46pts 2nd Nicky Hill 43pts 3rd P Fraiser 41Pts 4th S Bellas 41pts 5th J Wharton 41pts and
6th L Tedford 40 pts.
Wooden Spoon Marky Dicker with Minus 20 points.
The day was a success due to individuals who took part in the golf and to all those people who stayed to the end to hear our professional auctioneer John Wharton do his stuff.John if you ever give it up you could go on the stage mate.
I have several thankyous to add,to Banjo who made two trips out to Brampton to ferry back to Carlisle the boys who were well over the legal limit.
To the boys from the Upperby Institute (Zimmers in Disguise) who have supported this competition from day one and again this year.
To all the guys who contibuted to the Draw.
Last but not least our sponsors for the day Marky,Tel,Degsy&Les,John Wharton,Andy Walker,Raymond Swailes,Alan Dodd,Craig Milne,Colin West,Walshy,Nicky Hill,Graham Emerson,Paul Dobie,Harky,Harry(Howard),Masti,Geoff & Stuart,Nicky Gardner, Steve little,G parker , Brian hall and Robert Wharton.
