Three of us left Carlisle at 6 am yesterday on a surprise visit to Waza & Mark. We made great time, stopping by Loch Lomond for some pics.
Waza & Mark stayed in Glencoe on Friday night but were already heading south by the time we got up there. Mobile signals in that area are a rarity and we struggled to make contact with "base camp". Once we got hold of "Mamma" Kerr, we had actually passed the walkers- they are presently walking on the West Highland Way.
We turned tail for 10 miles heading for Bridge of Orchy and then the Inveroran hotel, on a single track road at this stage, with Andy Walker doing his Dukes of Hazzard impression. Once "Mamma" had served up our bacon, we headed off to meet Waza & Mark on the path. An ambush was considered but the point we saw the two of them, there were no hiding places.
Waza was seen to visibly rub his eyes as he saw us approaching, probably thinking he was hallucinating. We did consider walking straight past, offer a cheery "good morning" as if we were just passing and continue on, but we were there to offer support!
After Waza & Mark had re-fuelled, we walked back to Bridge of Orchy, three miles or so. My legs had given up by this stage, so I took to the van with Alan. Andy & Willie continued the walk- five miles to Tyndrum and then six miles to Crianlarrich. The first stage was smooth but the second leg was torture- I was poised to call mountain rescue at one point as the party had not returned.
The efforts of Waza, Mark and Alan are herculean- we cannot praise them enough. Waza and Mark look extremely strong- they've done over 220 miles now. After my three miles, I woke up this morning feeling as if I'd been run over by a bus. Andy & Willie did great yesterday, although Willie was making a passable John Wayne impression as we stopped on the way back.
well done to you lot for getting up there, looks like the lads are on target, let's hope we get plenty of support and a great turnout at gretna and asda next saturday,as well as brunton Park at half time when Waza officially finishes.Top Team
