Having watched city u16s play Warwick today in semi final of cup, i can only say the ref made the worst decision ive seen in youth football the game was in extra time sitting at 1-1 and the ref penalised my son ( city u16 keeper) for taking 10 seconds to kick from hand, he let him kick then whistled and told him he took too long to clear, no prior warnings during game, what a complete joke, warwick scored from free kick. I dont think ive seen a professional game when a free kick has been awarded without a warning being given let alone an u16 semi final. My son is absolutely gutted over the decision as up until then he'd been having a good match. The city lads can hold their heads high after this match as the whole team gave their all and didnt deserve to lose thats not being biased either. Get your head up brucky son you played well. Ref should hang his head in shame followed by hanging up his boots because he's not up to the standard both of these teams deserved.
Thanks for your post Shaun, and I'm sorry to hear what happened today. This "time" rule for goalkeepers seems to have all but disappeared from the game these days, although the senior team were punished at South Workington in the County Cup.
We know that refs look in on this board and I don't want this thread to turn into a ref persecution, but it seems an interesting topic all the same.
its not meant to persecute the ref but to blow up for a free kick after a 14 year old keeper has kicked the ball , without a word of warning anytime during the match is a bad decision .If he'd been rolling the ball around or bouncing it for say 30 seconds fair enough but 10 seconds and this in extra time of a game where he'd been under a lot of pressure from Warwick with the score at 1-1 so no point of time wasting. Refereeing common sense should say come on keeper get on with it then if he ignored him fair enough blow up for indirect free kick. I'm fairly certain everyone at yesterdays game was amazed at the decision and that goes for both sides. However it happens in football and you have to accept it just difficult to lift a 14 year old when he believes its his fault for the free kick.
This is clearly a hard decision for your son and yourself to take but if it is any consolation, Carlisle City is honoured to have your son involved with the club. He should be proud of what he has achieved and just maybe this very harsh experience will help develop him into a better player in the long run.
many thanks for your comments joe much appreciated by myself and Bruce, he's enjoying his football at Carlisle and has settled in well with the rest of the team who are a great bunch of lads. You are 100% correct that the harsh experience will develop him.
Anyhow apologies for my previous rants regarding ref was just frustrating to see my lad so down.
All the best
Shaun

Your rants are read in the manor which they are written. Frustration kicks in when decisions are made and I am sure the referee in case, as I know him has also made a thousand good judgement calls, and knowing Walks like I do it will be hurting with such a big prize at stake.
It is bigger and better to move on and learn, as every dog has his day pal.
Well done for reaching the last 4, for a team in the younger end of the age group. The team and coaches deserve a lot of credit.
