I have received a few phone calls over the last 24 hours in relation to the expulsion of the 3 clubs from the Longhorn League, due to over subscribing. I am disturbed to be told this due to the fact its certainly not the case for U13 upwards, so they must be concerned about the number of sides at the lower age groups. History tells us that these teams dwindle due to a number of reasons by the time that the teams have scheduled games and need referees. Infact , the mini junior leagues more or less run themselves as I am sure no one from the Longhorn League knows who is playing where at what time, nor will they care as they don't need to manage it. ( which is no problem)
However to do this without so much as a discussion with the clubs or the other league members seems very disrespectful.
I am sure the kids enjoy playing at these different venues also, instead of 90% Sheepmount.
They are respected clubs, with Abbeytown now having around 15 teams and a founder member I believe.
I believe as a club we should support their continued membership to the league and show our backing on here.
Great points and I agree. But the League have now issued a statement and they have given the league members the option to vote on this, so I am sure that we will see these clubs next season, assuming they want to remain now. It is a shame that it is coming to this, but maybe the committee need more numbers to help them with their difficult jobs.
They have I see, offered this option to everyone, so if any one wants to help...........
Will the vote be as conclusive as you are saying though ? I cannot personally see the clubs that have representatives on the committee voting to keep them in when the committee members have voted to ask them to leave. Along with the 3 in questionthat rules out approx 7-8 teams votes ! Just a thought what do others think ?
