Apparently Harraby had a goal disallowed yesterday that was well over the line, at Murton. Seemingly goal-line technology is not yet available in the Alliance! smile

And I've just spotted that the same referee is in charge at Stocksfield on Wednesday night!  biggrin

If we had goal line technology, football would have less talking points and become like cricket and rugby league - boring.

I would agree with the Rugby league one- I do enjoy the game but the televised matches now seem to have nearly every try being approved by the video ref, which is getting a bit ridiculous

Last night's ref lived up to his pre-match billing anyway.

I wasn't there last night but kept in touch with how the lads were doing by phone. Every time I rang the commentry I received was not about Stocksfield or City it was about the referee, summed up nicely at the end of the game by "his ears and mouth worked better than his eyes", enough said.

I see we are going to mark him down and file a report, perhaps if more teams did this it would help the standard of refereeing and encourage the powers that be to re-train the bad ones, because from my viewings of games this season they are actually getting worse not better.

Saying that I watched our County league team last night and Peter West had a good game. I asked him something regarding a HCC free kick and he said he was happy, but he had the courtesy and boll**** to find me after the game to say he thought he might have got it wrong, fair enough we all get things wrong and it takes a better man to admit it, credit to you Peter well done, I only wish we had more referees like that.

For the sake of completeness, and I don't see why these matters shouldn't be public, our submitted report is below-

"

STOCKSFIELD V CARLISLE CITY- 25/8/10

REFEREE- T.DAVIE MARK 40/100

We found the referee to not be of the expected standard. There were three penalty incidents during the game, two given and one not. The first one given was awarded by his assistant when Mr. Davie appeared to have a perfectly good view himself. He went to consult his assistant before awarding the kick, but it is difficult to see how the assistant had a better view.

His positioning on the second penalty claim, not awarded, was suspect as the incident happened centrally in the penalty area and yet he was placed out on the wing, in no position to see what happened.

The Carlisle City manager was spoken to for comments made during the game. However, on a matter of consistency, the referee chose to ignore several occasions when the Stocksfield management swore directly at him. In speaking to the City manager, the referee made a comment regarding our manager’s wife, which is hardly necessary.

In summary, our mark is based on poor areas of positioning, consistency and overall control of the game

To be even more complete, this is not a witch-hunt against referees- our match reports very very rarely criticise officials- I do not like doing it.

It must also be said that City now have 8 players cautioned in the first four games- that will not be ignored either.
