The proposition needs to be viewed with an open mind,as the benefits to both sides could be huge. A massive undertaking with a multitude of areas needing looked at,but it could be the best thing thats ever happened to local football in Carlisle.
Absolutely no harm to anyone talking it through to see if we can make it happen, nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.
Agree with Willie personally, although lots to discuss in the next few weeks/months.
I was impressed with what Donald Cameron had to say last night and particularly the way he put it over, and in our own chairman, Joe McGarry, who has handled most of the discussions with Donald so far.
It is quite apparent the two have a mutual respect for each other and hold one another in the highest regard. Quite odd in some ways for a Belfast protestant and a Glasgow catholic to be so.
Anyway, open minds gentlemen and ladies, lets see where we get to.
I think it could be a great idea if possible, at first though I thought it was a joke, all it was missing was an English man. You know how it goes there was an Engllish man an Irishman and a Scotsman........... Boom Boom
SOUNDS LIKE A DECENT IDEA,DONT KNOW HOW IT WOULD WORK AT JUNIOR LEVEL BUT FOR THE SENIORS IT WOULD BE GOOD,4 CARLISLE TEAMS PLAYING AT THIS LEVEL IS TOO MANY,PERSONALLY THERE SHOULD BE JUST 2 AT MOST,WHY HAVE 4 AVERAGE TEAMS WHEN YOU COULD HAVE 1 OR 2 GOOD ONES,LOOK HOW NORTHBANK HAVE SLIDED DOWN THE LADDER.
We have been down this road with Creighton at least three times and they were in it just for their good and didn't see City as a club who wanted to get on board and be treated as an equal. Remember we have been going since 1975 and we certainly want to keep our identityas Carlisle City. Some of our committee have been there from the start and i for one hope that Gillford want us on board at the very least an equal. So lets hear what they have to offer. I don't see this as a yes/no it needs all our managers and there people to mull this over when we see what can happen between the two clubs.
Just a thought, keep the name Carlisle City FC, but change the colour of the newly merged clubs strip to Gilford Park's current away strip. Simples. . .
The obvious strip (to me anyway) would be the sky blue and white stripe like the argentina kit which would reflect both City and Gillford Parks current colours.
As for the name - Carlisle City represents where we are from so is not just the club name and would love the name to remain, although i am sure Gillford would have their own views on that.
If talks to merge the teams did falter is there an alternative solution? In order to reduce the costs of runing both clubs at the senior level, is ground sharing the facilities at Gillford Park an option?
Just to put a cat amongst the pigeons even though Gillford have been running for a less time we are passionate about our name and colours too. I cant see why the youth sections stay as they are but under one commitee and then as they progress up the ladder have the two senior teams under one name. Even then its not just the clubs committees we have to think of its the parents and players we need to think. Many chats over the table is definatley needed, but certainly positive!!!!
Have to say that I agree with Dougie, (hello Doug) and also, Carlisle as a city and as a surrounding area has enough room for both teams, and more. Having spent some years with City and still looking for the results each week, personally I would prefer City to retain their own identity as a club, but ultimately I suppose others will decide. Good to see them doing so well (cant believe how much of a lard as Bellas is by the way,) and hope they go from strength to strength. Hello to all the boys from the time I spent in Carlisle. Be up soon Walks to visit Ogbert, lets have a night oot. Wurly
Nice to hear from you Brian. It's good to hear that Old City players keep in touch with what is going on at the Club. Your thoughts show that the Club needs stability to go forward. Cheers Wurly and hope to see you when you are back.
Hey Wurly you old bugger you must have shed a few pounds to be slagging off your old team mate bellas like that. Mind you you were always good for a bit of crack in the dressing room!!!. Hope I see you when you come up. Will
Hi Will, hows it going? Put it like this pal they would need to enlargen the shorts and top several sizes for me to fit into. Rumour is Llanelli Scarlets are keeping tabs on me to play second row...all of it. Dougie, we will squeeze a pint in when I am up soon. Good luck for the rest of the season boys. Ask Jackie if I owe any money for the monthly draw please.
