Well guys i have been around youth football for some time and read the messages posted and find it hard to understand why ? if you are loking to improve the ability and confidence of young players and being a community club !!!! regardless of ability at 7,8,9 years old why sign the player if you dont feel he is going to be able to play enough time on the pitch and YES they do know how long they play trust me!! out of curiosity how long have you all been youth coaches and what do you hold in qualification !!?? level 2 and 1 do not cover what young footballers need !!
the fa have specific awards for youth and they are the ones you should look to do !! maybe then you will have a more open mind with regards how long and what is needed at that level.
no offence meant and i do know how hard it is at all levels of the game, just because you have played does not make you a child coach !! they have totally different needs and i do add some parent coaches only do it because they couldnt !! parent coaches !? how many do it with no connection to the team ?

regards

Well Mr annonymous, It seems we have quiet a debate going on here. Firstly all our coaches are highly trained and regarded with great respect throughout this great City, they have all reached the required standard as laid down by the Football Association, they have all been on several courses, and indeed are about to embark on an FA Junior Coaching module within the next 2 or 3 weeks, they have worked with children of varying ages for many years and certainly know what it takes to educate and run a succesful Team within the junior ranks of the Longhorn Hardware Leage. You will find that ours is the Largest and probably most succesful Club within the County, and indeed we find it increasingly hard to accomodate all the youngsters within the surrounding area who wish to be a part of our Club. So we must be doing something right, I rest my case, good night.yawn

Mr Annoymous,

Some good points. Thanks for your constructive critisism.

I am sure we will look at what you have said over the next few weeks and see which areas we are failing to reach our high standards and attempt to put them in place.

I see that this has become a heated debate and although i have nothing to do with the youth football i can understand that as a Coach you want to play the players you want in the game and not be dictated too. The only solutions are that the League who have applied the Rules should be the one's who all your problems are vented against should be asked to look at the rule again or you will have to adhere to the rules.
Someone should get the League involved in your arguements as i believe they are hearing from other people that we have problems with the league rules and pickering behind their backs.

If these rule changes have been discussed at league meetings, then the youth committee have given people the chance to air their views. I would be interested to know who attended the meeting, and what was said.

i would never call people who give up time for the kids to play football !! all i am saying is as a community club ages 7,8,9 should be development of all players not just the one,s that you know will win the game before putting weeker players on!!
parent coaches !! how many would do it if they never had a child playing ?? interesting to find out how many coaches with your club and others have no connection towards players and do it to put something back into the game!!
thenew awards that the fa have out and deliver are for youth coaches and very worthwhile doing other than a level 2 or 1 that covers senior football more or advanced sessions, good for 14 upwards.dont be upset at my comments guys just a general issue with people that run young teams want to win first before thinking of the kids, No one likes to get beat but if you want to find tallent you need to give all the players equal time at young ages to prevent drop out at later years.

good luck guys

The issue you bring up about parent coaches is a silly one. You are trying to make out it shows more commitment if you run a team where you have not got a son or daughter in that team. After Christmas I took over, one of the City boys teams as they would otherwise have folded. This ended up being a nightmare as I have a son that plays in the same age group, I never got to see him play another game for the rest of the season. This new season coming my son is actually coming to play for the team I took over. Logistically it will be a hell of a lot easier as I can take him to and from training and the same with matches. More importantly I will be able to watch him play again. You are very right that just because we played football it does not guarantee that we will be good coaches. Same can be said about the profesional level, not many top class players go on to be great managers. However I think it's a cheap shot at us grassroots coaches, as at the end of the day we give up out time free of charge. I know alot of coches within our club who are excellent coaches and they also do alot more for our club besides running teams.
You say you have been involved with football for a long time with various age groups. What makes you think that you were a good coach? I am not saying you are not. For all I know you could be Bobby Robson on the wind up.  The new FA Youth Award is exactlly that "new" so that means if you coached young kids in the past you were maybe not best qualified to coach such age groups. Perhaps if you gave up your anonymity more people on this message board would respect your views. But the beauty of the internet I suppose is we can all be who we want,

Regards,

Alex Fergusonbiggrin

my point is that parent coaches make things harder for all including if you have son/daughter playing they suffer, i am very experienced in coaching but have lots to learn as we all do, the new youth award module 1 which you are doing is a start to learning how what and when !! fun games and simple stuff but age appropriate is the way forward.
carlisle city is a great club no question and i aploud you all ! all i am saying is why sign players if you do not intend playing them a fair share of the game even if they are weaker than others.it just infuriates me when people who claim to be coaches ! dont like it when the league make rules for the benefit of all concerned!! good enough to sign good enough to play is my philosophy. i see it every week at all ages were coaches scream and shout jargon at young players when really all you need to do is organise and let them make decicions its the way forward.

As I said earlier why come on to a Carlisle City message board and start criticising our coaches as a whole. You have no idea how each individual manager approaches there game / match. A few of the things you say are quite good, but then you generalise and make out we are all out just to win games at whatever cost. In an ideal world we would all be equal at the same time, however in reality that does not work. So the stronger boys at the time play more. By the way we still have 7 boys in our under 11's team for next season who started with us at 5 years old out of a squad of ten.   So we must be doing something right.

I feel the real issue here is the cloak and dagger behavior.... Some of the generalisation is good to read, but it needs to be backed up with credibilty...and on this occassion comes with a name.
However right your outspoken script is, I for one would love to know where your knowledge comes from...as if its from a book, it holds no credence with me. As you have said on numerous occassions, minutes on the pitch counts for alot... If you would rether speak one to one...warren.steele@teleconnexions.co.uk

well done on keeping them together !! my shout is that people moan about the rules the league set but the only ones to complain are the teams who play the better players to win or get the game beyond the opposition before playing the weaker players!! that is a fact.they all learn at different levels and yes some play more than others but a community club like city should be playing boys and girls at younger ages regardless of ability! trust me when i say some teams struggle to get plenty signed on and others take to make numbers but really dont want them !!
i do have a high qualifiation !! and plenty of experience of coaching all levels for over 20 years!! not 3 or 4 !! pro and local leagues.
i think i have hit a raw nerve with keyes here ??! not meant to so sorry mate.
i said in an earlier chat that i apploud people for unpaid time and effort in the game for the kids!!
all i am saying is dont sign them if you know, and you do !! that they are weaker than others and will not play much, let them go to another team for time on the pitch.
question= do you hold trial days for players at the end of the season ?

keyes dont take this to heart pal just community club is for develpoment and not lets see how many teams we can get and have players standing around with less time, the league rule equal time should not affect good coaches ! take the challenge and make the weaker players better with your coaching.

young players need playing time and equal time at that we have it a centre of excellence why should you be different ??

fergie,maurino eat your heart out

biggrin No offence taken. You certainly give us something to bite on though. I totally agree with you that boys and girls will only improve with time on the pitch, and that it is our responsibility to make sure it happens. By the way we know who you are!aww

haha well WALKS i made jest re the time played as people were moaning about its the coach who should decide ! plus the youth awards are better than level 1 and 2 for youth coaches, i would not call anyone who gives time for clubs its a credit to all that people do it and shows the way forward!! take the hint all reading.
i live local and do watch all the clubs and listen to what the kids get shouted at and its at times laughable to be fair.

Helo mr Wazza how r you!!!
who is mr d ??? am interested to know pal

bender got his knickers in a bit of a twist !! haha some people are very touchy when the truth flies around, all i am saying is if you have a child team and you know that the best will play always why sign weaker players? yes you need a squad to select from injuries etc but to complain regarding the league seting ground rules for how long they play is petty.
no one is trying to take away from you the hard work you all do just thinking of the child, would you like to stand around on a cold day wet windy etc then get 5 or 10 minutes?? my guess is no!!
the way around it all is to have trial days at the end of the season and select, that way you keep what you want and release the others who hardly play so they can join other teams who struggle to get numbers, some like to hang around with friends etc but as they mature they know what is going on.
all the best with your teams guys

At the moment I have an under 6 team and I am ensuring that the 4 better players are played out of position for at least 10 mins, one to teach them about the game in other areas and two to let the so called weaker ones get more football and find out where they actually fit in....as we both know, I could have the 9 best players in the town at U7 but by U9 they are not....unless you develop.
I have agreed with alot of what you have written and in some points I know that most of the coaches I have seen coaching, are clear in the development path with equal opportunities for all.
But you seem to be missing the point slightly. It is not that the coaches are constructively saying they will not play everyone for 50%, they seem to be venting their "dismay" at being "told" to do it, when part of their duty is to manage and that is part of managing to a great degree.
I have watched your comments with a keen eye and until your last comment, thought you may actually have a vested interest in " A Community Club" and its development, however you last comment makes me realise, you are actually only doing it for the reaction and am sure you wont actually practice what you preach.....Sorry to read your last commentsfurious

My advise to the Club as a whole is not to give this spectre the time of day and remove is comments and access if possible....Fellow comrades...Ignore the cretin.

cheerz wazza i have your support in that mate!!
i have not a would not call the club or coaches !!!!!!! we all have rules to abide by and yes our league is run by some dinasaurs at times but the correct intentions for 7,8,9 year old players to play equal time is a good idea and i dont think they are trying to tell you how to pick or run your team just asking for fair play for all.

all the best

take a look boys and you can not have it all your own way.

I take it ur on about me and my comments at the agm on thursday. My i say that i have not said anything about the rules that are set out by the leauge as they are there for every1 to follow as i have done while running youth teams for over 12 years boys and girls. My comments were to COLIN STEEL for his comments towards women and girls which he contines to come out with every time he stands infront of the leauge members. While outside JIM and PAULA told me that he lives in the 60s and he was told before the meeting NOT to go down that line, but as always he thinks hecan say what he wants with no come backs. Oh and in Mr Pattinsons words is it rules for 1 an not the other, as printed in the hand book page 22 CODE OF CONDUCT it states Set a positive example to others, particularly young players and supporters. May i finnish by say the im sorry for the language that i use while expressing my point of view but not for what i said

Mr Adams firstly can i say i did not know that you had been running youth teams 12 years !!!?? very impressive indeed.
I have many years of reporting and watching games of all ages and yes even watched you play yourself!!! not a greeat sight when you are having ago at a referee and making reckless challenges!!!! great example to youth players!!

I do appreciate that all you all do with youth teams of any level and its very hard
the kids need good rolemodels to look upto so i do expect more from people who post messages on a website open to all !! as Mr Mcgarry stated in an earlier post.
STOP  complaining and do something about it Mr Adams !! if all are thinking on your lines and support you take action guys..... not shout off and complain about rules and what Mr Seel says!!!!!! the league need him he is a great guy....

We need rid of the ones who shout and throw toys out of the pram at everything and anything because it does not suit them.

Yes i admit i have made mistakes while playing football thats why i never played at any other level than what i did but i would like YOU to go and ask all the kids who have and still are playing for me if im a role model to them or not.
I try and teach football to be played in the right way and right spirt and will not stand for youths useing bad language and having disrepect to other teams and officals because as they say you learn from your mistakes.
The point i was making last week and on this website is that MR SEEL however good a man you say he is keeps making coments against women and dose not learn from his. Thats all i was saying and have not said anything about the rules set out by the leauge

Having played football in the same team as Bender, I must say maybe he was a little excitable with his tackles and towards referees, but I can say he coaches in a   completly different way. As he says he coaches the game as it should be played and I have seen at first hand that he will not tolerate any youths swearing or being disrespectful to anyone, referees, opposition players or even parents. As Bender said he does not have a problem with rules or the majority of the commitee, just the comment that was made by Mr Seel. Having spoke to other youth team coaches(not just from Carlisle City) who were at the meeting, they have said Bender only said what the majority were thinking. I would always have somone like Bender coaching my daughter because he is not frightened of telling people face to face what he believes to be the truth., unlike you who has probably never made mistakes but will always HIDE  behind the name ANONYMOUS.

Barney jack !! i would firstly think of what you just posted pal, i would not have anyone else coach my daughter???!! wot a statement!! to make
Bender will be a good coach with young ones but certainly on the pitch was a wild player and seemed to like dishing out verbals to referees!! Mr Seel thinks he is god gift to football i know and makes very rash statements, anyone who coaches a youth team as a volunteer deserves great credit those who just do it to earn money i have no time for personally, and never put out back into the game !! i could name a few who join out beloved cufc at centre of excellence !!! so u guys who do it at junior level good luck but just get on with it and am sure Mr Seel will realise if you all put up to him will walk away from it with good ridance ??
I say he is a good man but gets carried away with himself at times,

Mr directorof football cufc

Mr Anonymous please re-read what Barneyjack wrote -

he did not state 'i would not have anyone else coach my daughter???!!'

when he was discussing Benders qualities, he did however state

'would always have somone like Bender coaching my daughter '

The two statements are totally different, so i don't see the point of your post.

                                   *****************************

As for parent coaches (if you are the same anonynous) - I for one can say with certainty that i would not have got involved in coaching had it not been for my son playing football, but now i am here i cannot rule out staying involved long after my son finishes, Carlisle City is a great club with great people doing their best in all ages - boys and girls.

What would happen if their were no parent coaches??

MARKC you have posted what I was about to reply to Mr Anonymous or is it directorof. He obviously can not understand proper written english . Like yourself I would not have got into coaching at youth level if it had not been for my daughter playing football. I would also like Mr directorof to tell me how many teams would be left at youth level if it weren't for parent coaches?

Parent coaches are the first link to youths participating in football and i would comend them, as long as the parent coach takes the appropriate courses. However we all know that to be a good role model means to have good policys and conduct themselves in the right manor, i have on many occasions witnessed discracefull outbursts by youth coaches/parent coaches. If this happens from you then would you consider yourselve A GOOD ROLE MODEL?

In my personal opinion (which we are all entitled too!) I think there is a time and a place for Mr Seels humour. A childrens football league meeting, I feel, is certainly not the time or the place. I have spoken to some who said he was out of order and I've spoken to some who said he was only joking (they are of course entitled to their opinion!). He may well have been joking but I didn't find him in the least bit funny and thought his comments were disrespectful. As I said at the beginning this is only my personal opinion!!

Like i have stated all along many of you just do it because you have a child or children playing in the team, why dont you put something back into the game as a volunteer without any relation to the team!!!!
My suggestion is that you only do it because of the child you have playing, yes also for others but mostly for the sibling.
What qualification do you hold ??!! are you educated in youth and how they learn ??!! very different from adults and yes i have seen heard and been on the end of some shocking instances of coach behaviour!!!! these role models and people who you say your child would play for are representing the county! club! and themselves !! but it all goes out the window when a chap says what he always does about female footballers !! he is a joke to football full stop.
could not run a team as most of that youth league couldnt but sit injugement of all and then cherry pick glory!! like some coaches who like to be heard.
Now listen if it were a rule that you all attend a youth course which trains you in how what and were a child learns would you do it ??
do not moan about conditions set by leagues because its YOU the coaches who vote us on !!!! Call an EAGM vote no confidence in certain people !!

MR DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL -
