New rule for under 7s & 8s
Permalink

I see that next season the rule is that all players should be given at least 50% of all games. The principle is obviously a good one, but I'm not sure how you enforce it.

it will be easy if we only sign 8 players . the problem is we all need subs. so now we`ve to worry more about getting the players on for 50% of the game rather than trying to win it!!! Roll on the fines £££no

Theres cud be a points system cuming in place next season, there was sumthing mentioned at the last longhorn meeting, so that if any team is found breaking rules the whole team kicked out the league, that includes managers & players. Because clubs just keep paying the fines & managers keep breaking rules.

Why do you Youth managers always think of glory?disbelief

The purpose of youth football is so the YOUTH PLAYER enjoys the game and the job of the Coach/Manager is to ensure enjoyment and hopefully the players play right through their youth!

Would it not be sensible to only sign on 8 players so it is EASIER for you Coaches/Managers to play all the KEEN MAD PLAYERS?confuse

Would it not also be a good policy for Community/ Charter Standard Clubs just to have SKILLS teams until the reach U12? as all knowledgable Coaches know that "the more a player touches the ball the more quickly he develops?
Would the player develop standing on the touch line and having lets say 5 mins of footy?

What if the player on the touch line has no real promise no real ability to work on, but is only their cos his friends all do it...coaches are still expected to coach these kids, who have no desire, but are happy with the social aspect of the club. Then, they have to play them at the detrement of the other 7/8/9 players on the pitch...who by the way, all realise this anyway.
Anonymous you maybe....but do not make a statement like that without looking at both sides. Coaches do no look for glory ( in general ), yes they have a desire to win, they must. But enjoyment is they key as you say, thats why these boys remain with the TEAM, even if their influence is minimal.furious

Well put waza can only agree.Think this rule will only encourage managers to take less players as we had 12 last year it would be hard to get them all on without having a load of fed up kids.As anonymous points out the more the player touches the ball the more he develops.Surely the opposite is the case if they not playing as much as u having to take them off all the time.Think most youth teams try to give kids the max time on the pitch anyway.

this new rule is a f*****g joke.we set off at the start of the season with 6,7 strong players, which is your first team ,just like alex or rafa would think .
we need a squad which is ten players or more,  this involves players who are not as skilled as others which they understand themselves and their parents.doh
we try to be as fair as we can .this is all about fun for the boys at this age,but they are  all old enough to understand that they want to win and not loose.
the players who only gets so many minutes as subs  in my view is a decision which is down to me the manager furious and not the longhorn experts,so let us just be managers.
i agree with raino?bring on the fines, this seasons is going to be fun.
ANOTHER STUPID RULE :IF A PLAYER IS TO YOUNG TO PLAY ABOVE HIS AGE GROUP YOU GET FINED{THIS IS CRAZY}MANY THANKS FOR MY £150 FINE
IF A PLAYER WHO HAS THE ABILITY TO PLAY FOR AN OLDER TEAM AGE HE/SHE SHOULD BE ALOUD TO PLAY .
WE ARE TRYING TO BRING ON FUTURE PLAYERS FOR ENGLAND ,LET US JUST GET ON WITH IT.
TO MANY RULES!!!!!!!furiousfuriousfurious

and does anonymouse take into concideration that coaches spend 2-3 hundred hours a year FREE of charge aiding these children. Does that not justify  making decisions????
Plus the parents who decide that their child is going to play football, weather they like it or not? And because we have a team, their child is eligable!!!!!!! And the grief?? Anonymous......you make me wonder...!

To be fair to the league committee, some of the rules they follow will be laid down by the national FA- certainly the rule about age-groups will be a national one.

Well if any new recruits out there read these replies then be WARNED!!! It seems like the Youth Team Managers of CARLISLE CITY STANDARD "COMMUNITY" CLUB have only one thing in mind and that is ABILITY so if you want to get into football but have no ABILITY then look to the clubs who play players regardless of ABILITY.

Is it not in the Charter Standard regs that FOOTBALL IS FOR ALL AND ENJOYMENT MUST BE MET REGARDLESS OF ABILITY!

Lets make sure that the Youth now and future have the chance to take part in this lovely game regardless of RACE, RELIGION, ABILITY, SEX, and not have DISCRIMINATION towards either of these.

Come on Lads!!!

Mr Anonymous, have you not read anything I personally have written. My comments are consistent in the fact that we DO play players regardless of the ABILITY, what we do concider rude is being told how much time we give each player on the pitch, not only the ones with less ability. It is our discretion as a coach on finer details such as this, otherwise the boys should all train together thrown in a pot and just play.
This is what we appreciate as stucture. They all get coached to the same level, but those who have less ability, you will find recieve more one to one coaching during sessions. I hope this is clearer.
On another note to bring RACE, RELIGION & SEX into this discussion is absurd a leads me to think your comments have ulterior motives.
Why not open up and show yourself so we can discuss this in more detail, if you feel your comments are just, and I am sure I can show you how wrong you are. no

It was a great year for english football, we won the world cup, not for some incomprehensible frenchman being born who is mostly remembered for kicking a poor Crystal Palace fan in the head (shame on you), and you have a go at me for not supporting a british team in the Champions League final, have a word slim boy!!!no

And Eric is my mate, he's a proud lancastrian, he won't like being compared to the karate kid.

Some interesting posts on this topic gents, my message to mr or mrs or miss mouse is if your afraid to show who you are on the web site no problem, have a look in the youth league handbook for the telephone numbers of Andy Walker, Andy Raine, Warren Steele, Mike Kelly, Mike Keyes etc.. and put your views over to them and let them explain theirs, they are all good lads, I'm sure they will appreciate an alternative point of view.

Be Lucky.

Annoyingmous i think you have missed the point .. Can i just say in certain games last year i left some of  my better players out for much of the games, not to be disrespectful to the other team but to try to make it a good and enjoyable game for all the boys of both teams. As a team coach it should be my perogitive to do this!! And decide how long to give my players to try to keep everyone happy. It`s a tough enough task without having more rules and regs to look out for. disbelief

The new rule change will be hard to enforce and i think it will open a big can of worms. Each week some manager will make a complaint against the other team usually following a defeat. You cant run a team with a stopwatch and notepad logging each players mins on the pitch. I have ran a team from under 8 mini soccer till under 16's and its quite easy to keep players and parents happy in the younger age groups and you can bring weaker players on by giving them chances during games. It can also help them that if you put them on and they make a bad decision you can bring them off and explain their mistake give them a short rest and then put them back on and see if they learn from their mistake. What makes me laugh is when you reach under 12's all this concern about length of time on the pitch goes out the window, because the league wont allow role on role off subs so in the tight games you cant put on your weaker players. Also you always have to keep at least one sub back incase of injuries

Great points Spike. Nice to read some common sense.

I have just had U6 playing tonight. How many of them even know how long the game was or how long they were on. But ask me this, how many enjoyed it.....10...all of them. They played in front of a crowd, they tackled, they kicked they shot and they got kicked....some scored...but most of all they were involved at some stage??? Price on that please Mr Annnnnoonnmice.
Dont tell me we dont care about youth, unless they have ability...we ( Carlisle City FC) breathe youth football and all it stands for, availabilty to all, fairness, discipline, skill, and above all enjoyment............come and watch any of my 4 sessions a week. Then comment.yawn
