Apparently, Chesterfield allowed Droylsden to score a goal in their FA cup tie the other night. Seemingly, Chesterfield had scored following a throw-in given to them after Droylsden played the ball out, to allow treatment for a player. The Chesterfield boss then told his players to let a goal in, which they did.
I wonder how many managers would do this? Would you do it with your team?
Brian, Can you not remember the Alliance game this year when we played Shankhouse, we let them do that 6 times!!! I know Corky is a mate but that's taking it too far.
Did you see the Jack Lester goal for Chesterfield? He received the ball from a throw in the droylsden right back area, everyone just let him have it, he then casually clipped the ball towards the keeper but got too much on it and it went in the top corner. The Droylsden manager went ballistic and ran over to Lee Richardson the Chesterfield manager shouting and gesticulating and the stewards had to intervene. By all accounts the Droylsden manager has had a lot to say for himself generally, a bit opinionated from what I have seen on the TV.
It happened in the FA Cup a few years ago when Arsenal did it to Sheffield Utd, I think Steve Bruce took the team off the pitch. When Arsene was interviewed after the game he hadn't seen it of course. Maybe red specs alan kerr can enlighten us a bit more on this one though.
On a similar vein, I can remember Robbie Fowler missing a penalty on purpose, playing for Liverpool at Arsenal. He seemed distraught the pen. was given, so he missed it.
