Whilst we do not have a planned winter break most teams at our level have an enforced one because of the weather.
I for one am in favour of a planned winter break, it saves all the hassle of trying to organise a team, pitch, bus etc.. when the chances of playing are slim.
Why not start earlier, say 01st Aug, write off Dec, then start again mid Jan to the end of May. The players (managers & committee) would get Dec and a bit of Jan off when the weather is generally at it's worst and still get a 2 month break before the season starts again. Granted pre season training and friendlies would be an issue.
This season, the winter break started at the end of August!!
Seriously, its not a bad idea. The completion of this season is going to be a logistical nightmare for so many people. I wrote on the site the other day that Harraby have 25 Alliance games to play plus Cumberland Cup and Alliance Cups. They'll be playing 7 days a week in May.
